The Support

Name: Bev Everton

Role: Nurse for GBWR

"I read an appeal in Forward magazine asking for support staff to help the GBWR team. It looked like a really dynamic, fast moving sport, which was really making a difference to the lives of the players and their community. So I sent my CV in to Coach Tom O'Connor. The team were leaving for the Beijing Paralympics the next day but he promised to call when he got back and was as good as his word.

I was invited to attend their training camp in Norfolk and found it a fast, furious and fascinating game! As a registered general care Nurse, with a lot of experience in continence care, I felt sure I could offer the team the right support and in the Summer of 2009 I became part of the support team.

My role as lead consists of planning staff for events and tournaments whilst overseeing the general medical care of the players at these events, especially with regard to continence.

Coloplast, who also sponsor the GBWR Coloplast League, support my role for GBWR and I am very privileged to have such great backing and work in such an exciting and inspiring community of athletes. I would encourage anyone toying with the idea of getting involved - whether for nursing support or just helping out - to get in touch to find out more! All skills are valuable!"
